Quality engineer

As a quality engineer you make sure what leaves the factory is right. You investigate complaints and deviations down to the root cause, translate standards like ISO 9001 into workable procedures and improve processes so errors don't return.

The role is analytical and human at once: data tells you where things go wrong, but the solution is realised together with production, suppliers and customers. In sectors like pharma, food and automotive it's a key role with lasting demand.

What does a Quality engineer do?

• Investigate complaints and non-conformities with root-cause analyses (8D, 5-why, Ishikawa)
• Prepare, guide and follow up internal and external audits
• Draw up and manage quality documentation, procedures and control plans
• Drive improvement projects together with production and engineering
• Assess suppliers and follow up quality agreements

What do you need to master?

• A technical bachelor or master, or equivalent experience in production or lab
• Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9001; GMP or IATF is an asset in many sectors
• Analytically strong: collecting, structuring and drawing conclusions from data
• Documenting precisely, also under the time pressure of an audit or complaint
• Convincing without hierarchical power: quality is won on the shop floor

What does a Quality engineer earn?

€3,200 – €4,800 gross per month

How do you grow?

Quality engineers grow into quality manager or QHSE manager, adding safety and environment. If the project side appeals more, you shift towards continuous improvement or operational excellence.
