As a supply chain planner you decide daily what gets produced, ordered and shipped. You juggle lead times, machine capacity and stock costs, keeping the overview when a supplier fails or a customer suddenly doubles.
Since the disruptions of recent years this profession ranks higher on the agenda than ever: companies now know what a hiccup in the chain costs. Planners who can read data and stay calm under pressure are sought after accordingly.
What does a Supply chain planner do?
- Draw up the production and supply planning and adjust it daily
- Guard stock levels and place orders with suppliers
- Align with production, warehouse, transport and sales
- Flag bottlenecks early and work out scenarios for peaks and shortages
- Analyse planning data and KPIs in the ERP system and report
What do you need to master?
- A bachelor in supply chain, logistics, business or equivalent experience
- Strong with numbers and fluent in Excel; experience with an ERP like SAP is a big asset
- Setting priorities when everything seems urgent at once
- Communicating clearly with production, suppliers and sales, often multilingual
- Process thinking: you see the chain, not just your own link

€3,000 – €4,400 gross per month

Is supply chain planner a technical role?
It's an analytical role in a technical environment. You don't need to repair machines, but you do need to understand how a production process works: changeover times, capacity, batch sizes. Planners with an affinity for the shop floor make the best plans.
