Eco vouchers
Eco vouchers are a tax-free extra of at most 250 euros per year for ecological purchases: from appliances with a good energy label to bicycles, plants and second-hand goods. In many sectors, including joint committee 200, they are mandatory through collective agreement.
What can you buy with them?
The list is broader than many people think: energy-efficient appliances, LED lamps, insulation and garden material, plants and trees, (electric) bicycles and accessories, repairs of bicycles and appliances, second-hand goods and sustainable products with recognised labels. The official list is set by the social partners and updated regularly.
How does granting work?
The statutory maximum is 250 euros per employee per year, free of social security and tax if granted through a collective (or individual) agreement and the reference period is respected. In joint committee 200, white-collar staff receive 250 euros in June by default, pro rata to performance in the reference period. Electronic eco vouchers remain valid for 24 months.
In your pay package
Eco vouchers are a fixed part of many Belgian packages but weigh less than meal vouchers: it is one amount per year. Some sectors convert them through collective agreement into an equivalent benefit (for example a higher premium or extra purchasing power). Check your sector agreement or ask us when you get an offer.
Frequently asked questions
Are eco vouchers mandatory for my employer?
That depends on your sector: in joint committee 200 and many industrial committees they are mandatory through collective agreement (often 250 euros per year for full-timers), in other sectors they are the employer's free choice. Your sector agreement is the source; your union or payroll provider can look it up.
What happens to eco vouchers when I leave?
Vouchers already received remain yours until they expire. For the current reference period, most agreements give you a pro-rata grant on departure. The card keeps working as long as there is a balance.
